All in all, the Tronsmart Bang delivers an impressive performance spectrum and an extensive range of programs for the price. Therefore, minor objections regarding the robust, albeit simple design of the housing and the sound impairment at high volumes should not be taken too seriously. However, despite its level reserves, it is more suitable for moderate background sound than for parties.

Advantages
  1. Powerful bass and high level stability for the size
  2. Satisfactory balance up to medium levels
  3. App and well-designed control panel on the device
Disadvantages
  1. Sound becomes quite sharp at higher volumes
  2. Problems with the playback of MicroSD cards

With the Tronsmart Bang, the Chinese brand, which focuses on a lot of power for the money, is offering a smaller offshoot to the remarkably powerful Bang Max, which we recently reviewed. The concept is basically the same, just a whole lot smaller. The 36.1 cm wide Bluetooth speaker weighs around 3 kilograms and has a round plastic housing with all-round covering made of robust mesh fabric and illuminated bass radiators on both sides.

The Tronsmart Bang has many features

The baffle contains two woofers and two tweeters. A total output of 60 watts is available to drive the two 2-way systems. Passive diaphragms on both sides provide bass support. If you like, you can illuminate the bass radiators with LED lights. An LED light strip is added to the underside of the baffle. Thanks to the battery with a capacity of 10,800 mAh, the Bang offers up to 15 hours of playtime if you deactivate the lighting effects. With the light show, the operating time is reduced by a good half. Practical: You can also use the Bang as a power bankto charge your smartphone via the USB-A port . However, the Bluetooth speaker itself is charged via a USB-C socket; a power adapter is not included.

Compared to an earlier version of the Tronsmart Bang, the operating buttons are printed in white and are therefore very easy to recognize. The operation is exemplary intuitive except for one point: There are two buttons with symbols that cannot be categorized without the operating instructions. These are the TuneConn and Soundpulse EQ buttons. With the first, speakers can be wirelessly paired as party chains or stereo pairs via Bluetooth. The second can be used to influence the sound tuning. Among the Bang’s sound modes, the Soundpulse preset is a real highlight

Functional app

The lighting effects can be changed or deactivated in the free Tronsmart app for Android and iOS. There is also an equalizer with six sound presets, including “Rock”, “Classic” or “SoundPulse”. The voice assistants of the smartphone paired via Bluetooth can be activated by voice via built-in microphones.

The digital and analog connections(USB A, USB C and AUX) are located under a rubber cover on the back of the plastic housing, which is protected against rain and splash water in accordance with IPX6. The Bang plays music from USB sticks or MicroSD cards. They must be formatted in FAT32 and not contain any exotic formats such as FLAC. In the test, the Bang only accepted MP3s from our colorful selection and struggled with the MicroSD card.

For more power at parties, you can connect over 100 Tronsmart speakers wirelessly via“TuneConn“. If, on the other hand, you are looking for real stereo with a wide sound stage, you can also pair two Tronsmart Bang speakers via Bluetooth 5.3 to create a stereo pair.

This is what the Tronsmart Bang sounds like

However, the listening test showed that a Bang is capable of generating plenty of volume even in solo mode. In addition to a rich, clean bass, it radiates a breath of fresh air in the treble range. However, you should be more careful about turning up the volume. The relatively balanced sound becomes more and more aggressive as the level rises. At a certain point, the mids and highs become sharp, while the bass is slowed down by the DSP. As a result, the achievable maximum level, which is truly astonishing given the small dimensions, cannot be enjoyed to the full.

However, if you’re not buying this affordable, comparatively bass-heavy Bluetooth speaker with parties in mind, you really do get solid performance for your money. If you stay below the threshold where voices become sharp, the achievable level in the home should be completely sufficient. After all, the Tronsmart Bang reproduces dynamic jumps very vividly. That puts you in a good mood.

Tronsmart Bang: Conclusion and alternatives

All in all, the Tronsmart Bang offers a lot of power and a wide range of programs for the money. There’s really no need to complain about the robust but simple housing design and certain sound impairments at high levels. It should not be forgotten that for 100 euros you can usually only get small mini Bluetooth speakers for your handbag from high-end brands such as Klipsch or Marshall with the Austin or the Willen, which are certainly not suitable for high levels and cannot keep up in terms of connectivity either.
