The Tronsmart Bang SE offers a lot of bass for the money. Unfortunately, the harsher mids as the level rises prevent the full utilization of the level reserves.

Advantages
  1. Rich bass response for the price
  2. Lighting effects
  3. Long battery life
Disadvantages
  1. Harsh mid-range reproduction becomes annoying at medium volumes

The Tronsmart Bang SE, a compact yet powerful Bluetooth speaker, outperforms its larger counterpart, the Bang, primarily due to its illuminated full-range speakers. Despite its relatively light weight of just over 2 kilograms, this 40-watt mobile speaker has a wealth of features that enhance its portability and the overall user experience. Above all, the shoulder strap, which is attached with a carabiner, and the large carrying handle considerably increase the speaker’s mobility so that it can be transported to different locations without any problems. Thanks to its 8000 mAh battery, the Bang SE promises a runtime of up to 24 hours – a top value, especially in this price range.

Unlike the larger Bang models, the Bang SE cannot be connected to the Tronsmart app, but this is compensated for by a user-friendly control panel. This control panel, which is protected from dirt and moisture by a rubber coating, offers the user direct control over the speaker’s three different light effects (3 LED modes, circling, breathing and beat), which flicker in time with the music. They illuminate the side passive bass radiators and both active drivers in time with the music.

In addition to USB sticks, microSD memory cards are also suitable for playing music. And there is an analog AUX input on the back. (Photo: Stefan Schickedanz)

The equalizer settings can also be called up on the keypad. The speaker’s versatility extends to its connectivity options, including an analog AUX input and the ability to play music from USB storage devices or MicroSD cards, making it a feature-packed device for a variety of audio playback applications.

This is what the Tronsmart Bang SE sounds like

The audio performance of the Bang SE, especially the bass response, will impress most of its users. The speaker has been designed to satisfy the bass preferences of its party audience and deliver powerful low frequencies for the price and size, enhancing the listening experience for bass-heavy music genres. However, the Bang SE’s performance in the mid-frequency range, which is particularly important for the reproduction of natural-sounding voices, is less convincing. Both female and male voices tend to have a sharp and metallic aftertaste, which can become unpleasantly harsh at higher volumes. Despite this shortcoming, the speaker remains a viable option for listening to music at moderate volumes, where these problems are less pronounced.

In terms of value for money, the Tronsmart Bang SE is still a good choice. Its affordable price of 70 euros, combined with its comprehensive features and extremely solid audio performance, makes it a compelling buy for anyone looking for a compact, versatile Bluetooth speaker. The device’s ability to be both portable and deliver impressive sound quality, particularly in the lower frequencies, ensures it is suitable for a variety of listening scenarios, from casual home use to outdoor parties.

Tronsmart Bang SE: Conclusion and alternatives

The Tronsmart Bang SE turns out to be an extremely portable and feature-rich Bluetooth speaker that is characterized by excellent bass performance and offers a variety of connection options. Even if it doesn’t reproduce the mid frequencies perfectly, its strengths in the low frequencies and its many features, including an easily recognizable control panel with white print and various playback options, make it an attractive option in its class. The included shoulder strap and the large carrying handle improve the portability of the device, making the Tronsmart Bang SE a versatile and functional companion for fans of electronic and pop music who are often on the move.
