The Soundcore Motion Boom packs a powerful punch for less than 100 euros.
Its bass lives up to its name and the battery life of up to 24 hours is also impressive.
The low price is only noticeable in the vocal range, especially when things get loud.

Advantages
  1. Deep, rich bass
  2. High level reserves
  3. Stereo playback with a second Motion Boom
Disadvantages
  1. Somewhat discolored voice reproduction
  2. No analog input

I reviewed the Anker Soundcore Motion Boom some time ago for another online magazine. After recently discovering that Bluetooth speakers, which at first glance are reminiscent of the good old portable radios, are still at the top of Amazon’s best list, I would like to take another look at them for visitors to STEREO GUIDE. With a weight of just under 2 kilograms and a sturdy handle, the speaker is easy to transport.

The somewhat chunky but robust hard plastic housing measures 34.6 x 20 x 14.8 centimeters and not only offers enough space for powerful components, but also for a considerable 10,000 mAh battery. This enables up to 24 hours of playback time. This makes the Soundcore Motion Boom the ideal companion for long outdoor activities, outdoor parties or simply everyday life.

A particular highlight of the device is its water resistance. Thanks to the IPX7 certification the speaker is completely waterproof and can even be immersed in water without being damaged. This makes it ideal for use by the pool, on the beach or in the rain – a real all-rounder for all weather conditions.

A lot of watts for the money

Inside the housing, two 2.5-inch titanium drivers (6.35 cm diameter) and passive radiators on the sides provide the bass. With a total output power of 30 watts, this combination promises an impressively clear and powerful sound that is particularly impressive in the low frequencies. As the name Boom suggests, Soundcore attaches great importance to powerful sound with this Bluetooth speaker, which should not falter even at higher volumes.

App included

For even more flexibility, the Soundcore Motion Boom offers the Soundcore app for iOS and Android. In addition to a 9-band equalizer, it provides three different sound presets: Soundcore Signature, Voice and Treble Boost. These settings offer good customization options for different music genres and listening habits. While“Soundcore Signature” ensures a particularly crisp sound,“Voice” emphasizes the mids, which is ideal for audio books or podcasts. “Treble Boost” naturally emphasizes the treble and is particularly suitable for instrumental music or films where dialogue and fine details are in the foreground. There is also a sound preset for a particularly even tonal balance. This allows you to tailor the sound of the speaker to your own requirements.

Sound test: Loud and clear

What stands out about the sound of the Soundcore Motion Boom is the really rich and clean bass. The affordable Bluetooth speaker explores the bass deeper than most of its competitors and also offers impressive volume reserves. Even at higher volumes, the sound remains stable and does not distort, making the speaker with handle an ideal companion for parties on the balcony or in the garden. Even if the speaker is used outdoors or in larger rooms, the Motion Boom can easily provide an amazingly powerful sound system. If you combine it with a second Motion Boom using the TWS (True Wireless Stereo) function, you can achieve true stereo playback, which significantly expands the sound experience in spatial terms and also increases the level reserves.

The mid-range and treble reproduction of the Soundcore Motion Boom is also well done. These areas come out of the speaker in a differentiated and detailed manner. The richness of nuances and tonal details must be mentioned for the price range. Especially with acoustic pieces or classical music, you can tell that the speaker is capable of producing a clear and clean sound image. However, there is also a small drawback: when reproducing vocals, the Motion Boom can sometimes sound a little harsh. Voices occasionally come across as slightly discolored, which is particularly noticeable at high volumes or during particularly demanding recordings. However, this slight aftertaste only minimally clouds the otherwise very convincing overall picture of the speaker. Where else can you get such a full sound for under 100 euros?

Soundcore Motion Boom: Conclusion and alternatives

Apart from minor weaknesses in naturalness, especially with vocals, the Soundcore Motion Boom is an absolutely convincing Bluetooth speaker that can easily compete with the big brands – and at an amazingly affordable price. Anyone looking for a robust, versatile and powerful-sounding wireless speaker with astonishing level reserves in relation to its price will find the Motion Boom to be an extremely affordable solution.

We see the Tronsmart Bang SE as the main alternative. For a comparable price, it offers a light show as well as a practical shoulder strap, which Soundcore only offers with the Motion Boom Plus, which is twice as expensive. Even more expensive is the comparably sized JBL XTreme 3, which not only comes with a strap, but also with a more uncolored sound.
