Edifier will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2026 and is also among the new exhibitors in the expanded audio section of IFA. The Chinese brand is bringing two very different new products to Berlin, among others: The XR6, an elaborately designed studio monitor, is aimed at professional users and ambitious music producers. The surprisingly compact MW6T subwoofer, on the other hand, is designed to add more depth to desktop and hi-fi systems—including the Edifier M90, which has already been reviewed by STEREO GUIDE.
The XR6 was already on display in its basic form at CES 2026. More detailed technical specifications are now available for IFA. The MW6T, on the other hand, rounds out the Edifier portfolio as a new active subwoofer featuring two opposing woofers.
Edifier XR6: Active three-way monitor with three power amplifiers
With the XR6, Edifier is taking a significant step away from the affordable desktop speakers that made the brand famous. This active studio monitor is designed for home studios, professional recording environments, and modern production workstations.
Instead of the two-way design common in this size class, Edifier opts for a true three-way system. A 1.25-inch aluminum dome tweeter is paired with a 4-inch midrange driver and a 6.5-inch woofer. The midrange and woofer drivers also feature aluminum cones.
Each frequency range is assigned its own Class-D amplifier channel. The datasheet lists a total power output of 100 watts RMS, distributed as follows: 60 watts for the woofer, 30 watts for the midrange driver, and 10 watts for the tweeter. The high-frequency response is said to extend beyond 40 kilohertz.
24-bit/192 kHz and automatic room calibration
The active crossover is DSP-based. Edifier promises end-to-end signal processing at 24 bits and 192 kilohertz. The feature set also includes automatic room calibration via special PC software. However, the external measurement equipment required for this is not included.
In addition, there are manual filters on the back panel for adjusting the speaker to its installation location. This allows the XR6 to be optimized, for example, for use on a studio console or near a wall. Bass roll-off and tonal balance can also be adjusted.
Balanced XLR and TRS inputs are available for professional audio sources. There is also an unbalanced RCA input and a digital AES/EBU interface. Additional monitors can be connected in a digital signal chain via an AES/EBU output.
The low-resonance enclosure is made of die-cast aluminum and is available in dark gray. With dimensions of 19.4 x 28.7 x 30.4 centimeters, the three-way monitor remains relatively compact.
Edifier MW6T: Two woofers work against each other
The Edifier MW6T places even greater emphasis on achieving the best possible balance between enclosure size and performance. The active subwoofer measures just 27.1 x 24.9 x 25.5 centimeters, including its feet. Nevertheless, Edifier has managed to fit two long-throw woofers, each with a diameter of 6.5 inches, inside it.
The two aluminum diaphragms are positioned symmetrically opposite each other. This force-canceling arrangement is designed to largely cancel out the mechanical forces generated by the drivers. This reduces cabinet vibrations and allows for high sound pressure levels without the small subwoofer sliding across the floor during powerful bass pulses.
The built-in Class D amplifier delivers 210 watts RMS. Edifier specifies the frequency response as 38 to 180 hertz. Given the very compact enclosure, the lower cutoff frequency is impressive; however, considering its dimensions, you shouldn’t expect it to perform like a full-fledged subwoofer designed for a large home theater system.
Can be mounted on a wall, in a corner, or freestanding
DSP-based room correction is designed to adapt the bass to different locations. Settings are available for free-standing placement as well as placement against a wall or in a corner of the room. This helps to at least partially compensate for the bass boost caused by adjacent surfaces.
The upper cutoff frequency can be set between 50 and 160 hertz, and the phase can be adjusted between 0 and 180 degrees. Connectivity options include an LFE input and a stereo RCA input. The stereo signal can be looped through to other components via an additional RCA output.
After 15 minutes without an input signal, the MW6T automatically switches to standby mode and resumes playback when music is played again. The enclosure combines 35-millimeter-thick MDF baffles with an 18-millimeter-thick outer shell. It is available in matte black and matte white.
MW6T as a bass booster for the Edifier M90
It pairs especially well with the Edifier M90. This compact active speaker set features its own subwoofer output and has already impressed inthe STEREO-GUIDE test with bass that is surprisingly rich and precise for its size, as well as high dynamics and excellent spatial imaging.
The MW6T is therefore by no means essential for the M90. On a desk, these small active speakers already provide a solid foundation on their own. The subwoofer really comes into its own when used with a TV, for gaming, or in larger rooms where extra power in the lowest octaves is needed. To connect the M90’s 3.5-millimeter subwoofer output to the MW6T’s RCA input, you’ll need a compatible adapter cable.
Prices and release dates for the Edifier XR6 and MW6T have not yet been announced. These new products will be on display at IFA 2026 from September 4 to 8 in Hall 10.2 at Booth 121.
