Final D8000 DC & D8000 DC Pro: New sound, new technology

Uncompromisingly Japanese: the new top models from Final

With the D8000 DC and the D8000 DC Pro Edition, the Japanese high-end manufacturer Final presents two technically revised versions of its reference model D8000. The abbreviation “DC” stands for “Da Capo” – a musical new beginning, which in the case of the new models stands for a targeted return to basic acoustic principles. The aim: maximum precision, increased comfort and even more refined sound quality.

Both models continue to rely on Finale’s planar magnetic driver principle in combination with the in-house Air Film Damping System (AFDS). This has been revised: The hole structure in the punched metal and the cone geometry have been redefined to minimize distortion and make bass reproduction even more controlled. The spatial imaging benefits from a more stable sound field.

The ultra-light cone made of etched aluminum remains the heart of the design. In contrast to conventional drivers, Final completely dispenses with glued-on coil conductors – and therefore additional mass. The result: around 30 % less moving mass and significantly increased impulse fidelity.

Clearer through air: more openness in sound

Another design change concerns the front magnet: This has been removed, which increases the aperture ratio of the sound guide by around 70%. The effect is audible – with more openness, improved high-frequency resolution and an overall airier sound.

Final has also improved wearing comfort: The new ear pads are around 1.5 times thicker than the previous model and are made of breathable foam combined with a special fabric based on washi – a traditional Japanese paper. This not only ensures greater comfort during long listening sessions, but also increases the acoustic volume around the ear. Voices and acoustic instruments benefit from a more even sound distribution. The headband is also padded with washi-based material and designed for maximum durability.

The housing is made of a CNC-milled aluminum-magnesium alloy and has a special leather-like coating – familiar from the camera industry. It protects against scratches and gives the housing additional structural rigidity to effectively suppress resonances of the sensitive drivers.

Two tunings – neutral or with extra punch

In terms of sound, the two models take different paths: the D8000 DC is tuned for absolute neutrality and is aimed at listeners who appreciate unadulterated, analytical sound reproduction. The Pro version, on the other hand, offers a little more fullness and presence in the bass range – for those who prefer a more powerful sound character without sacrificing resolution.

Both versions are consistently designed for demanding applications – whether for professional studio use or for audiophile listeners in the home. Which version suits you better ultimately depends on your individual listening taste.

Production and control: all in Japan

As with its predecessor, all production takes place at the final factory in Kawasaki, Japan – including the production of tools and measuring systems. This complete in-house production allows for continuous quality control and ease of repair: almost all components are bolted together and can be replaced individually if necessary.

The scope of delivery includes two high-quality, detachable cables: a 1.5 m OFC cable with a 4.4 mm Pentaconn plug and a balanced 3 m XLR cable. While the standard version comes with a black sheathed XLR cable, the Pro version is equipped with a silver braided cable. Both models are compatible with previous Final headphones such as the D8000, D8000 Pro (LE) and the SONOROUS series. They are transported in a lockable aluminum hard case – in keeping with the product’s premium claim.

Availability and price

The Final Audio D8000 DC and D8000 DC Pro models are now available. The recommended retail price is 4,299 euros for the D8000 DC and 4,799 euros for the DC Pro Edition.
