The subwoofer does not necessarily have to come in black. Velodyne Acoustics is expanding its Deep Blue, Impact X, VI-Q and MicroVee X model series with white versions. The manufacturer wants to impress not only acoustically, but also visually – especially in modern living rooms where light colors and restrained design are in demand.
White as a design element
The color white is considered unobtrusive in interiors and can be harmoniously integrated into bright room concepts. In living rooms with light-colored furniture, wooden floors or exposed concrete, a white subwoofer looks less like a technical foreign body. The new housing variants from Velodyne are designed to be visually discreet, while the technology inside continues to provide powerful, precise bass.
Proven technology in a new look
Technically, the white models do not differ from the familiar variants.
- MicroVee X: Compact housing, one active 16.5 cm driver and two passive cones, 300 W RMS output.
- Impact X: Optionally with 10- or 12-inch drivers, up to 450 W for movie and music playback.
- Deep Blue: Class D power amplifier for powerful, precise bass.
- VI-Q: Digital signal processing, parametric equalizer, automatic calibration for precise bass adjustment.
The interplay of function and aesthetics
Regardless of size and power, Velodyne’s approach for all models is to design subwoofers as part of the overall room concept. In the white version, two devices can also be integrated inconspicuously into a living room without disturbing the overall visual impression. For use in home cinemas, however, the black housing version is recommended, as it reflects less light and blends unobtrusively into the dark surroundings.
