With the Velodyne Acoustics 1824, Velodyne Acoustics is making an extraordinary statement about uncompromising deep bass. Even before its official unveiling, the new reference subwoofer is causing a stir with its key specifications: 18-inch and 24-inch drivers in a single enclosure, 6,000 watts of RMS power, and a low-frequency response extending down to 7 hertz.
The official premiere will take place at High End Vienna 2026.
18 inches plus 24 inches in a single enclosure
The name “1824” already hints at the unusual design of this exceptional new subwoofer. Velodyne combines an 18-inch and a 24-inch transducer in a single enclosure. Three power amplifiers deliver a combined 6,000 watts RMS and up to 10,000 watts of peak power.
Despite its impressive performance figures, Velodyne expressly emphasizes that the 1824 is not intended to be merely a volume machine. Rather than maximum volume at any cost, the focus is on controlled, precise, and extremely deep bass. According to the manufacturer, the project arose from the desire to combine four decades of experience in subwoofer design into an uncompromising reference model.
Weighs 350 kilograms—but can be transported
Weighing in at around 350 kilograms, the 1824 is clearly outside the typical range for hi-fi systems. Nevertheless, Velodyne aims to make the system as practical as possible. To that end, the manufacturer has integrated carrying handles into the enclosure and includes special rolling lifters for transport and setup.
Inside, a new generation of electronics is at work, including app-based calibration. This is designed to allow this exceptional subwoofer to adapt precisely to the room, the speakers, and personal sound preferences.
Limited-edition high-end model with nameplate
The Velodyne Acoustics 1824 is limited to just 50 units worldwide. According to Velodyne, each model comes with a custom plaque bearing the owner’s name.
As a result, the 1824 is clearly positioned not as a traditional mass-market product, but rather as a prestigious engineering project and collector’s item for uncompromising home theater and high-end enthusiasts.
Premiere at High End Vienna 2026
The new flagship subwoofer will make its official world debut at High End Vienna 2026 at the Audio Reference booth. Velodyne plans to unveil all the technical details and the complete design there for the first time.
It will be particularly interesting to see whether the massive 1824 actually achieves not only maximum sound levels but also the precision and control for which Velodyne has been known for decades.
