T+A is expanding its high-end HV series with two new flagship components. The new SDX 3100 HV combinesa streaming client, D/A converter, and preamplifier in a single chassis, while the A 3100 HV —the successor to the legendary A 3000 HV—is a completely redesigned stereo power amplifier featuring numerous technical innovations. Both models have been shipping since July 9 and are aimed at discerning music lovers seeking uncompromising sound quality and long-term investment security.
The SDX 3100 HV combines streaming, a DAC, and a preamp
The SDX 3100 HV will serve as the digital control center for the HV series going forward. At its heart is the third generation of the Audiophile Streaming Architecture (ASA G3), which supports high-resolution streaming from Amazon Music, Qobuz, Tidal, Deezer, and other services. In addition to AirPlay, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, and Qobuz Connect, Roon will also be supported in the future; certification is currently underway.
In doing so, T+A consistently relies on its Path Separation Technology, in which PCM and DSD data are processed via completely separate signal paths. While PCM runs through a quadruple PCM DAC based on four Burr-Brown converter chips, a dedicated True 1-Bit converter processes DSD signals natively up to DSD1024—without any prior conversion. The digital section is complemented by a sophisticated master clock featuring two femto-oscillators and multi-stage jitter suppression.
Full-featured preamplifier with analog tone control
The integrated preamp section has also been redesigned. It operates in a fully balanced, double-mono configuration and is designed to offer exceptionally high channel separation and ample dynamic headroom.
The unusually sophisticated analog tone control is particularly noteworthy. Unlike digital DSP solutions, bass and treble boosts can be implemented entirely in analog. In addition, users can even customize the frequency response and, if necessary, adjust the channels independently.
For vinyl enthusiasts, T+A is offering, for the first time, an easy-to-install phono module that is available in either an MM or MC version.
The A 3100 HV carries on the legacy of the A 3000 HV
At the same time, the new A 3100 HV replaces the A 3000 HV, which was in production for many years. According to T+A, more than 270 design changes and optimizations were incorporated into the development of the successor model.
The biggest new feature is a high-current mode, which brings true Class A playback to the stereo power amplifier for the first time. Depending on the speaker load, the power amplifier operates in pure Class A mode at up to about 75 watts per channel. For maximum power, a High-Power mode with up to 500 watts in Class AB is also available as an alternative.
Special Mono Mode
T+A also takes a unique approach to mono operation. While many manufacturers bridge their power amplifiers to achieve higher output, the A 3100 HV’s output stages are connected in parallel. According to the manufacturer, this design prevents increased distortion and ensures trouble-free operation even with low speaker impedances.
New Power Supply for Maximum Performance
To match its enhanced performance capabilities, the A 3100 HV has been equipped with a completely redesigned power supply. A newly developed, hermetically sealed toroidal transformer with magnetic shielding is designed to minimize interference. In addition, twelve new low-ESR capacitors are used, which are intended to provide sufficient energy reserves even during high dynamic changes.
In addition to the new power supply, T+A relies on numerous other measures for thermal stabilization, separate voltage and current amplifier stages, and consistently non-magnetic design elements. The goal is to achieve the most faithful reproduction possible, with high detail resolution and, at the same time, natural musicality.
