Pure is expanding its Elan series with a bedside radio alarm clock. The new Elan Sleep combines DAB+ and FM with Bluetooth, two alarm times, and a dimmable display. It also features a function that goes beyond the morning wake-up call: The ASA warning system can activate the radio from standby mode when danger alerts are issued. The price is 59.99 euros.
Wake up with Elan
The compact Elan Sleep features a simple design available in black or sand. The light-colored version has a warm cream tone underneath. DAB+ and FM are available for daily radio programming. You can also use Bluetooth to play music, podcasts, and audiobooks from your smartphone or tablet.
The two alarm times can be set independently of each other. You can choose to wake up to an alarm tone, a DAB station, or an FM station. You can also specify whether the alarm should go off once, daily, only on weekdays, or on weekends. You also have a choice regarding how the volume starts: immediately or with a gradual increase over 30 seconds. If you’d like to stay in bed a little longer, the snooze button gives you an eight-minute extension.
To prevent the nightstand from becoming a light source at night, the display brightness can be adjusted separately for active use and standby mode. A light sensor also allows for automatic adjustment. If desired, the display remains dark until a button is pressed.
Wake-up Call for Emergencies
One special feature is support for ASA, short for “Automatic Safety Alert.” The system transmits official hazard alerts via DAB+. If the radio receives a warning for its location, it can interrupt the current program or turn on from standby mode. The technology does not require an internet or cellular connection to function. The only requirements are a power supply, reception of the relevant DAB+ warning signals, and proper configuration for the location.
Deutschlandradio and Media Broadcast launched the German service ASA DE on their nationwide DAB+ platform in September 2026. It is currently in a rollout phase and complements existing alert systems such as sirens, alert apps, and cell broadcast.
