Choosing between open-back and closed-back headphones is one of the fundamental questions in hi-fi. Beyerdynamic is now leaving this decision up to price-conscious gamers: The MMX 100 wireless isolates users from their surroundings with closed ear cups, while the MMX 130 wireless features an open-back design. Both gaming headsets feature Bluetooth 6.0, a USB wireless adapter, and more than 80 hours of battery life, according to the manufacturer. Prices start at 99 euros.
MMX 100 wireless: Focus on the game
The MMX 100 wireless features a closed-back design intended to block out distracting external noise and keep your focus on the game. Dynamic 40-mm drivers are used for sound reproduction; according to Beyerdynamic, they are tuned for precise sound localization in-game.
The headset weighs 275 grams without the cable and features soft velour ear cushions. Sturdy metal hinges and replaceable ear and head cushions are designed to ensure a long service life. A detachable META VOICE microphone is available for team chat announcements.
MMX 130 wireless: Open to vast gaming worlds
The MMX 130 wireless, which costs 30 euros more, gives its drivers more acoustic space. Beyerdynamic promises that the open-back design delivers natural, spatial sound reproduction, which is said to particularly benefit soundtracks, atmosphere, and ambient sounds. Accordingly, the manufacturer recommends this model especially for role-playing games, open-world adventures, and simulations.
These headphones feature specially tuned, titanium-coated 40-mm drivers. Weighing 265 grams without the cable, the MMX 130 wireless is also slightly lighter than its closed-back counterpart. The open-back design and breathable, two-layer velour ear cushions are designed to prevent heat buildup during extended use.
This allows you to remain aware of your surroundings, and game sounds can also be heard by others. The open-back design is therefore better suited for a quiet gaming room than for a noisy environment.

Four connection options and a replaceable battery
Both headsets connect via Bluetooth 6.0, the included low-latency dongle with a USB-C port, USB audio, or an analog audio cable. This allows you to connect PCs, smartphones, handheld devices, and consoles; the available connection types depend on the specific platform. The USB wireless adapter is designed for low-latency gaming. An adapter for USB-A ports is also included.
The open-back MMX 130 wireless also features a detachable META VOICE microphone. Volume, microphone mute, and calls can be controlled directly on the headset. Users can also adjust the sound and other settings via the beyerdynamic app.
The manufacturer specifies a battery life of more than 80 hours for both models. Charging while in use is possible, and the batteries can be replaced if necessary. The package also includes a microphone pop filter and one 1.8-meter USB cable and one 1.8-meter analog cable for each model.
Prices and Availability
The Beyerdynamic MMX 100 wireless costs 99 euros, and the MMX 130 wireless costs 129 euros; these are the manufacturer’s suggested retail prices, including VAT. Both gaming headsets are available in black and Arctic White. Replacement parts and ear pads are sold separately.
