Stream, play, and talk freely: Audio-Technica is expanding its StreamSet series with the wireless ATH-M50xSTS-WL. The headset combines the headphone technology of the ATH-M50x with a condenser microphone based on the 20 Series. The connection is established via a USB transceiver operating in the 2.4-GHz band. The price is 279 euros.
2.4 GHz Wireless for Audio and Voice
The ATH-M50xSTS-WL expands the StreamSet family—which previously consisted of XLR and USB models—to include a wireless variant. Audio-Technica is targeting streamers, gamers, and content creators who want to combine audio playback and voice recording in a single device.
The included USB transceiver connects to a computer or a compatible game console. According to the manufacturer, the digital wireless transmission is designed to operate with low latency, ensuring that video and audio remain as synchronized as possible during gameplay or live streaming. Audio-Technica estimates the maximum range at ten meters with a clear line of sight.
Condenser Microphone with Two-Stage Noise Reduction
For voice recording, Audio-Technica uses a condenser microphone with a cardioid polar pattern. It is designed to prioritize capturing the voice directly in front of the microphone while attenuating sounds coming from the sides or rear. A flexible arm allows for positioning close to the mouth. When the arm is folded up, the microphone mutes.
In addition, adaptive noise cancellation processes the microphone signal. It is designed, for example, to reduce noise from air conditioners or PC fans. Two levels can be selected directly on the ear cup; the feature can also be turned off. The volume control is also located there.
The sidetone feature plays back your own voice through the headphones. This is designed to help you maintain a natural volume when speaking and reduce the feeling of being acoustically isolated.
M50x technology and two sets of ear pads
On the playback side, Audio-Technica draws on the technology of its well-known ATH-M50x studio headphones. The closed-back headset features dynamic 45-mm drivers with rare-earth magnets and CCAW voice coils made of copper-coated aluminum wire. The manufacturer promises detailed reproduction of speech, music, and game sounds.
The package includes two sets of interchangeable ear cushions. The breathable mesh version is designed for longer sessions, while the second pair provides greater passive noise isolation. The headset can be folded up for transport and, according to the manufacturer, weighs about 365 grams without the cable.
Up to 24 hours of battery life, with USB charging
Audio-Technica specifies a battery life of up to 24 hours and a charging time of approximately three and a half hours. While charging, the ATH-M50xSTS-WL can continue to be used as a wired headset via the included USB cable. This allows you to continue a session even when the battery is empty.
