With the Jamo HYG 5, Danish coziness gets a network connection. The new Wi-Fi speaker combines streaming, an amplifier, and three drivers in a fabric-covered enclosure. Features include AirPlay 2, Google Cast, numerous streaming services, and a subtle ring of light. A simple hand gesture is all it takes to turn it on.
The name sets the tone: HYG is derived from “hygge,” the Danish way of life that combines coziness, relaxation, and socializing. The new flagship model of the HYG series delivers on all the musical fronts. The network player and amplifier circuitry are already built into the enclosure, and you can stream your favorite music in a variety of ways.
Three drivers and 30 watts of total power
Two 6.35-centimeter full-range drivers operate beneath the fabric covering. They are angled upward and outward to extend the stereo image beyond the width of the enclosure. A downward-firing 10.16-centimeter woofer handles the bass.
It is supported by two symmetrically arranged bass reflex ports—which also open downward—with flared openings. Ribbed port walls are designed to minimize unwanted vibrations.
According to Jamo, the built-in amplifiers deliver a combined 30 watts RMS. Of this, 5 watts are allocated to each of the two full-range drivers and 20 watts to the woofer. The manufacturer specifies the frequency response as 45 Hz to 18 kHz with a tolerance of ±6 dB.

Streaming with a Wide Range of Connection Options
To connect to your home network, the Jamo HYG 5 supports Wi-Fi on the 2.4- and 5-GHz bands. Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, and Qobuz Connect let you select music directly within their respective streaming apps. TuneIn adds internet radio, and QPlay II is also included.
AirPlay 2 and Google Cast expand the playback options and allow integration into compatible multi-room systems. Jamo specifies a maximum system resolution of 24-bit at 96 kHz.
Bluetooth 5.0 with SBC and AAC codecs is available for direct wireless connection to a smartphone or other audio source. Setup and playback control are handled by the Jamo Play app for iOS and Android. Its equalizer lets you adjust the sound balance to suit your personal taste.
CDs and vinyl can also be played
An analog stereo RCA input complements the wireless connections. For example, you can connect a CD player or a turntable here. For vinyl, however, a built-in or external phono preamp is required, as the Jamo HYG 5 has a line input.
A simple tap is all it takes
To wake up the speaker, simply wave your hand over the device. The HYG 5 will then resume playback from the last source used. The touch control panel is dimmed in standby mode.
A warm-glowing ring creates the perfect lighting ambiance. A sensor adjusts its brightness to match the ambient lighting. You can also adjust it manually or turn it off completely using the app.
Even the short beeps that sound when turning on the device and pairing it are part of the design concept: The Danish sound agency Unmute developed them for the HYG series, drawing inspiration from Nordic nature and acoustic instruments.
