Stereo systems with two loudspeakers, in which a master box contains all the electronics, are now common. Bluetooth playback, additional digital inputs and remote control are also standard. The French manufacturer Triangle is also rather on the upper edge of the usual price range with its set called AIO Twin at 700 euros. On the other hand, the set also combines application possibilities from phono to streaming service, which are not available from the competition.

This also applies to the visual appearance, as here matt lacquers in various trendy colours are included in the price instead of unadorned foil decor. The 2-way configuration, i.e. tweeter and bass-midrange driver, is typical for small hi-fi speakers. At 13 centimetres, the bass-midrange driver even has sufficient dimensions for a bass reproduction that fills a living room. 50 watts of amplifier power are available per speaker, the internal signal paths are then designed as with a passive speaker. The active part is always taken over by the right speaker, an active subwoofer can additionally be supplied with signals.

Lots of features, great feed options.

The application diversity of the AIO Twin is unique, although nominally “only” 5 sources are selectable: In addition to the classic inputs for two analog and optical-digital signals (such as from the TV), control via Bluetooth is also possible. The analogue RCA pair can be converted to a phono input for the turntable at the flick of a switch, provided that the turntable is equipped with an MM cartridge. The source selection as well as a sound control and simple control of the Bluetooth source is mastered by the Infrorat remote control. The highlight is the additional functionality as a WLAN streamer. Alternatively, the Triangle Set can also be supplied with signals via Ethernet cable. Then not only streaming from the in-house NAS server is possible (using a UPnP app), but also direct streaming from Tidal, Qobuz or Spotify. PCM signals are processed and converted up to 192/24 hires.

This is how the connection in practice

The Bluetooth connection worked without any problems, even connecting to the in-house network did not pose more than the usual barriers of prior knowledge to the user. The phono input worked without problems in the review, thanks to the additional ground socket also hum-free. From the factory, AIOs are tuned to be somewhat bass-driven. If you don’t place them freely on the stand and in large rooms, you should lower the bass by several levels right away. This can be done easily via the remote control.

This is how the Triangle AIO Twin sounds

From the cabinet volume alone, the AIO Twin left us in doubt as to whether it could play like a truly full-fledged stereo system. But they are unfounded in every respect. With her rich bass and irrepressible drive she played her way into the hearts of lovers of rock, pop and oldies. The French wireless speakers were able to impress with a homogeneous and true-to-tone sound image. At higher volumes, or if a typical living room location was chosen – such as the lowboard under the TV – a slight lowering of the bass was advisable. The AIO Twin only knew how to answer this in an exemplary manner with even more dynamics and speed.

With virtually any recording that contains even a bit of room reverb, the listener immediately realizes why they invested the budget in a stereo pair and set it up reasonably, despite the hassle of wiring. The same is not achieved in a similarly priced onebox speaker. Because the Triangle’s voices and instruments stood out beautifully wide in space, the illusion of a concert was amazingly realistic. There was neither diffusivity nor too direct imaging, which is not uncommon with speakers with less treble emphasis. On the contrary. The three-dimensionality that could be heard here also fulfilled audiophile demands with classical music and jazz.

At the same time, the tonal tuning was rather not geared towards classic high-end virtues. Working out the last ringing bell in an orchestral recording didn’t matter to the AIO Twin. So is the breath-holding of jazzy female voices. With a certain down-to-earthness she gave especially rock music the decisive pressure, the decisive soul and the dynamics in the music.

Triangle AIO Twin: Verdict or alternatives

The concept of the Triangle AIO Twin with phono input and streaming is unique on the market. Can you do without the latter? Then you will find, for example, with the Magnat Monitor Reference somewhat cheaper and sonically self-confident, but also less well processed alternatives. Triangle’s in-house competitors, such as the Senza 03, are clearly less mature, dynamic and finely resolved in sound. But they are also significantly cheaper.
