In a remarkable partnership, Burmester, known for its high-quality audio components from Berlin, has launched the PURE SOUND project. This project, developed in collaboration with Mastercut and led by Florian “Doc” Kaps, founder of Supersense, is all about authentic, lively music enjoyment.
PURE SOUND sets itself apart through its dedication to unadulterated sound experiences, using a unique recording technique. During private recording sessions in the heart of Vienna, live performances are captured directly on records in a historic palazzo, without any subsequent editing. These direct recordings on lacquer records, which are cut directly with a sapphire, are not just acoustic documents, but genuine works of art.
Malia makes the start
The initiative began with two extraordinary live recordings. The American singer-songwriter Malia was the first artist to experience this. She recorded six uncut songs in front of a select audience in Vienna, capturing the resonance of each note in real time and allowing for a unique musical interaction. This session took place in the intimate atmosphere of Supersense, a location specially designed for such authentic musical moments.
As a special highlight, the PURE SOUND Initiative has recorded the song “Fussy” in full length and made it available on the Burmester website.
At the same time, the string sextet of the Karajan Academy of the Berliner Philharmoniker performed Tchaikovsky’s “Souvenir de Florence”, which was also recorded directly, reflecting the emotional depth and technical brilliance of the ensemble. This performance was also transferred directly to a lacquer record in order to preserve the dynamic and nuanced sounds permanently.
These record masters are not only testimonies to outstanding musical performances, but also proof of Burmester’s technical and artistic mastery. During the subsequent listening sessions, in which the artists and invited guests listened to their recordings via a Burmester setup, all participants were able to immerse themselves in the depth of the authentic sound and experience the musical works in their purest form.
