With the FiiO Snowsky Disc, the manufacturer is expanding its Snowsky series after the Echo Mini and Nano with a particularly eye-catching digital audio player. The new model deliberately combines retro-inspired design with modern technology and is aimed at music lovers who value concentrated listening – beyond the everyday smartphone.

At the heart of the Snowsky Disc is a dual DAC architecture tuned for clean, detailed and natural reproduction. The player is designed to harmonize with both sensitive in-ears and more sophisticated full-size headphones while delivering a balanced, controlled sound signature.

Round touchscreen and reduced operating concept

The unique visual feature is the circular touchscreen, which is reminiscent of portable CD players and also enables modern operation. Album art and lyrics are displayed directly, and the player can be controlled either on the device or via the FiiO smartphone app. The user interface remains deliberately uncluttered and dispenses with unnecessary distractions – the focus is clearly on the music.

Thanks to WLAN, content can also be streamed via AirPlay. At the same time, the Snowsky Disc is aimed at listeners who continue to rely on local music libraries: Extensive hi-res collections can be taken along via microSD cards up to 2 TB.

Many connections, also for the home

The small player is surprisingly versatile when it comes to outputs. In addition to a 3.5 mm single-ended connection,a 4.4 mm balanced output is also available. For wireless listening, the Snowsky Disc supports Bluetooth with LDAC, and Wi-Fi is also integrated for updates and additional functions.

The Snowsky Disc can also be used as a player in a home setup: USB DAC function, USB audio out and an SPDIF output allow it to be used with external DACs, amplifiers or active loudspeakers. This positions the device not only as a portable player, but also as an affordable digital source for the home system.

A tongue-in-cheek extra are retro-inspired sound effects that can be used to vary the sound character – a playful addition to the otherwise purist approach.

Duration, price and availability

With a battery life of up to 12 hours, the Snowsky Disc is suitable for longer listening sessions, commuting or even use in the gym.

The market launch is planned for January. The recommended retail price is around 80 US dollars or 80 British pounds. Converted, the player should be around 75 to 80 euros in Europe (including standard market adjustments).
