At the FINEST AUDIO SHOW in Darmstadt last weekend, we at Sonoro were impressed by the compact duo consisting of the AMPLIFIER streaming amplifier and the STREAMER network player. According to the manufacturer, these hi-fi components—which were announced back in February —are now available. At the same time, Sonoro is announcing the launch of its own wired multi-room solution. It connects up to 32 compatible music systems via LAN and distributes not only music but also TV audio throughout the home.
Sonoro Multiroom: Music Takes the Lead
A wired network forms the backbone of Sonoro Multiroom. According to the manufacturer, audio signals are transmitted losslessly and in sync to the connected devices via Audio-over-IP. Sonoro recommends CAT 6 cabling for this purpose. A LAN connection avoids the range issues and interference typical of wireless networks and is particularly well-suited for new construction or apartments and homes that are already networked.
The distribution isn’t limited to individual streaming services. Music streamed via Apple AirPlay and HDMI audio can also be transmitted over the network. For example, the TV audio from the living room can also be played in the kitchen.
Depending on the network infrastructure, up to 32 Sonoro music systems can be integrated, and up to 16 groups or zones can be created. These can either play the same program simultaneously or play different sources at individually selected volume levels. No internet connection is required for local audio distribution. Of course, online streaming services still require Internet access.

AMPLIFIER and STREAMER: Two Ways to Build a Networked System
The two new additions serve different purposes: The Sonoro AMPLIFIER powers passive speakers directly. According to the manufacturer, its Class-D power amplifier from Hypex delivers 250 watts × 2 at 4 ohms. This makes it suitable for both traditional hi-fi speakers and in-wall speakers.
The Sonoro STREAMER, on the other hand, is designed for owners of active speakers or an existing hi-fi system. In addition to a fixed line output, it offers an adjustable preamp output and an optical digital output. A 12-volt trigger can be used to automatically turn on compatible external amplifiers.
Both devices feature an ESS SABRE digital-to-analog converter, a seven-band parametric equalizer, and PureGain digital volume control. According to Sonoro, the latter is designed to reduce background noise compared to conventional digital volume controls. Rainer Finck was involved in the sound tuning. Streaming options include Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, and Qobuz Connect, as well as Apple AirPlay and Google Cast.
Both models can take over the TV audio via HDMI ARC. Thanks to CEC, power and volume can be controlled using the TV remote.
Living room size with rack-mount compatibility
Measuring about 21.7 centimeters wide and 8 centimeters tall, the AMPLIFIER and STREAMER take up very little space. The matte black aluminum enclosures feature solid-metal buttons and knobs, as well as a four-inch color display.
The compact dimensions also serve a practical purpose: Two units fit side by side in a standard 19-inch rack. This allows multiple rooms to be served centrally from a single equipment cabinet, for example, via permanently installed ceiling speakers. In CI mode, the displays can show device or room names. This makes it easier to identify devices in larger installations.

Free Update for Existing Sonoro Systems
In addition to AMPLIFIER and STREAMER, Sonoro Multiroom supports the MAESTRO Quantum Signature, the MAESTRO Quantum, the second-generation MEISTERSTÜCK, and the ATRON. Owners of compatible models can receive this feature free of charge via a firmware update over the Internet. Sonoro has announced that a separate update for the AVATON will be available shortly.
Control is handled by the visually and functionally redesigned Sonoro-audio app for iOS and Android. Alternatively, the devices can be integrated into the home automation system. Busch-free@home and KNX installations are supported via Gira X1, Gira HomeServer, and the JUNG Smart Visu Server. This allows playback, volume, and sources to be controlled via compatible wall switches or programmed scenes.
Pricing and Availability
According to the manufacturer, the Sonoro AMPLIFIER and Sonoro STREAMER are now available at specialty retailers and in the company’s own online store. The AMPLIFIER costs 1,499 euros, and the STREAMER costs 999 euros.
