With the CX 80U and the HD 400U, Sennheiser is expanding its portfolio with two wired headphones featuring a USB-C port. According to the manufacturer, the new models are designed to offer improved connectivity compared to the previous CX 80S and HD 400S versions, and enable entry into digital audio playback without additional adapters.
Sennheiser speaks of direct, lossless signal transmission with low latency. According to the manufacturer, digital playback up to 24 bit / 96 kHz is supported, making the new headphones suitable for modern smartphones, tablets, PCs, handheld consoles, and laptops with a USB-C interface.
“The HD 400U and CX 80U are designed for anyone who wants to get started right away and doesn’t want to compromise on sound quality,” explains Christian Ern, Senior Product Manager at Sennheiser. The goal is to combine the familiar Sennheiser sound with a contemporary USB-C connection and integrated remote microphone.
HD 400U: Closed over-ear for on the go
The HD 400U follows the concept of the HD 400S and relies on a closed over-ear design. Sennheiser promises effective passive noise isolation and a powerful sound character. For mobile use, a detachable cable and a transport bag are provided. According to the manufacturer, the headphones are equally suitable for use at home, in the office, or while traveling.
CX 80U: Compact in-ear with USB-C
The CX 80U is aimed at users who prefer an in-ear solution. In terms of sound, it is said to follow on from the CX 80S and, according to Sennheiser, offers a balanced yet powerful reproduction. Silicone ear tips in three sizes are designed to ensure a secure fit and passive shielding – for example, when working, gaming, or listening to music on the go.
Compatibility, prices and availability
Both models rely on plug-and-play operation via USB-C and, according to the manufacturer, are compatible with iOS, iPadOS, Android, ChromeOS, macOS, Windows, and SteamOS. A compact MEMS microphone is used for telephone calls and video conferences.
The Sennheiser CX 80U is available immediately at an RRP of 39.90 euros, and the HD 400U at 79.90 euros (CH: 74.90 CHF) – from authorized dealers and directly via the Sennheiser website.
