Audio-Technica is expanding its StreamSet line with an affordable model: The new ATH-M20xSTS combines the technology of the proven ATH-M20x studio headphones with a condenser microphone. Thanks to its jack connection and USB-A and USB-C adapters, the wired headset is designed to work equally well with computers, consoles, and mobile devices.
Following the ATH-M50xSTS, Audio-Technica is now making its StreamSet concept available to a broader audience. The new ATH-M20xSTS costs 99 euros and is aimed at gamers, streamers, and content creators who want to combine headphones and a microphone in a simple, all-in-one solution.
The model is based on the ATH-M20x professional monitor headphones from Audio-Technica’s successful M Series. According to the Japanese manufacturer, this series has already sold more than two million units worldwide.
40-mm drivers with CCAW voice coils
For sound reproduction, Audio-Technica relies on 40-mm drivers with CCAW voice coils. The coils, wound with copper-clad aluminum wire, are designed to offer a favorable balance between low weight and high power handling.
Audio-Technica promises a balanced, full-range sound with linear reproduction and a powerful low-frequency foundation. This is designed to offer benefits not only for gaming, but also for monitoring voice recordings, streams, and other audio content.
The elliptically shaped ear cups are designed to passively block out external noise and make it easier to focus on sonic details. The ATH-M20xSTS weighs about 230 grams. Breathable mesh ear cushions are designed to ensure a comfortable fit and better air circulation, even during extended gaming and streaming sessions.
Cardioid condenser microphone
A unique feature of the Audio-Technica ATH-M20xSTS is its built-in AT20 condenser microphone. It has a cardioid polar pattern and is designed to capture the voice clearly while attenuating ambient noise coming from the sides and rear.
The microphone is mounted on a flexible yet rigidly shaped swivel arm. This ensures that it remains in as constant a position as possible in front of your mouth, even when you move your head. To mute the microphone, simply flip the microphone arm upward. This means you don’t have to search for a separate mute button while gaming or streaming.

Connects to a PC, game console, and smartphone
The ATH-M20xSTS operates entirely via a wired connection. This eliminates the need for a battery, wireless connection, and pairing. Audio-Technica equips the headset with a detachable cable and a 4-pole 3.5-mm TRRS plug. This plug combines the headphone and microphone signals into a single connector and is compatible with, among other devices, gaming consoles, laptops, and mobile devices equipped with the appropriate ports.
The package also includes adapters for USB-A and USB-C. This allows the headset to be used with a wide range of computers, tablets, and smartphones without the need for additional drivers or a separate audio interface. The detachable cable also makes it easy to replace if it becomes damaged during everyday use.
