Grell OAE2 – New high-end headphones with FSFM technology

Natural sound thanks to front sound field modulation (FSFM)

At the heart of the new model is the front sound field modulation (FSFM) developed by Grell. Unlike conventional headphones, the sound waves hit the ear at an angle from the front, allowing the sound to interact more realistically with the individual shape of the ear. The result is an open, airy sound image with finely resolved highs, clear mids and a bass that remains physically perceptible – authentic instead of overemphasized.

The OAE2 builds on the success of the highly acclaimed OAE1 and incorporates targeted user feedback. New padding and an improved headband ensure greater wearing comfort, while the longer extension allows more flexible adjustment to different head sizes. The frequency response has also been refined to achieve an even more balanced and precise sound.

“Our aim was to create headphones that adapt to natural hearing – not the other way around,” explains Axel Grell, CEO & Chief Engineer. “With the OAE2, we wanted to bring the listener even closer to the music: precise, emotional and absolutely authentic.”

Material quality and sustainability

grell also makes no compromises when it comes to the materials used. The open stainless steel mesh meets velour and memory foam upholstery to ensure maximum comfort. Thanks to the modular design, all components can be replaced or repaired – a plus point for longevity and sustainability.

Grell relies on environmentally certified production, plastic-free packaging and durable materials. With this consistently sustainable approach, the company follows the principle: “Quality that lasts – both technically and ethically.”

The scope of delivery includes two silver-plated OFC cables: one with a 3.5 mm jack (including 6.3 mm adapter) and one with a 4.4 mm plug for balanced operation.

Technical data at a glance: Grell OAE2

  • Frequency response: 12 – 34,000 Hz (-3 dB)
  • Impedance: 38 Ohm
  • Sound pressure level: 100 dB (1 kHz)
  • Maximum input power: 500 mW
  • Distortion factor: 0.05 % (1 kHz)
  • Weight: 378 g (without cable)
  • Front-side sound field modulation (FSFM)
  • Open, modular design

Design with award-winning heritage

Visually, the OAE2 is based on the multi-award-winning OAE1 Signature, which was honored with the iF DESIGN AWARD in 2025. The filigree housing architecture combines technical precision with ergonomic elegance. “Our aim with the OAE2 was to create a holistic experience – design, comfort and emotion should form a unit,” says Axel Grell.

The Grell OAE2 will be available from specialist retailers from December 2025. The recommended retail price is 499 euros. With its innovative FSFM technology, sustainable design and emotional sound performance, it sets a strong example in the international high-end segment.
