More than a year after its initial unveiling at IFA 2025, Teufel is launching its first studio monitor. The active Teufel STUDIO 5X features a true 3-way system with coaxially arranged midrange and tweeter drivers, as well as phase-linear DSP filters. A pair costs 499.99 euros; the Bluetooth version, the STUDIO 5X BT, is priced at 549.99 euros.
However, the market launch isn’t quite as immediate as the phrase “available now” in the press release suggests: Both models are already available for order, but in the Teufel Shop they are currently listed as “ready to ship within 6 to 7 weeks.”
From the Living Room to the Control Room
With the STUDIO 5X, Teufel is officially entering the professional pro-audio segment. The compact active monitor is aimed at music producers, sound designers, and audio engineers, but given its price per pair, it should also appeal to home studios, content creators, and hi-fi enthusiasts seeking the most neutral sound reproduction possible.
Teufel sells these monitors—which are available exclusively in matte black—exclusively as a pair. Each speaker measures 21.3 × 32.8 × 26 centimeters and weighs eight kilograms. Three Class-D amplifier channels deliver a combined 122 watts RMS per speaker, resulting in 244 watts for the stereo pair. Teufel specifies the maximum sound pressure level as 106 dB at a distance of one meter.
Three-way system on a compact enclosure
The STUDIO 5X combines a 20-millimeter fabric tweeter with a 75-millimeter coated-paper midrange driver. Both drivers are arranged concentrically on the same axis and are designed to acoustically approximate a point source. This promises precise spatial imaging and consistent transient response. A waveguide controls high-frequency radiation and is designed to expand the usable sweet spot.
The bass is handled by a long-throw 135-millimeter woofer, which is approximately 5.25 inches. Teufel specifies a frequency range of 37 Hz to 24 kHz, though these figures are measured at -10 dB. More meaningful for real-world use are the figures also published: 40 Hz to 22 kHz at -6 dB and 42 Hz to 20 kHz at -3 dB.
In this true 3-way design, the woofer does not have to reproduce delicate midrange frequencies. This is intended to reduce intermodulation distortion and ensure a cleaner sound at higher volume levels. The integrated DSPs use phase-linear filters to reproduce impulses and transients with precise timing.
Klippel measurements and flexible placement
The STUDIO 5X was developed in the Teufel measurement lab in Berlin using a Klippel Near-Field Scanner. The system captures a loudspeaker’s spatial dispersion characteristics and enables measurements in which the influence of room reflections can be largely factored out.
According to Teufel, thanks to the coaxial midrange-tweeter system, the monitor is designed to perform without any significant acoustic drawbacks whether placed upright or on its side. Rounded front edges reduce diffraction effects, while the aerodynamically optimized bass reflex port on the front also makes it easier to place the speaker relatively close to a wall.
To adapt to the workspace, location corrections are available for an open position, a position close to a wall, or a position near a corner, as well as low- and high-shelf filters. The brightness and function of the status LED can be configured, as can the automatic standby time. Two M6 threads on the back allow for mounting on tripods, wall mounts, or ceiling mounts—for example, for surround and immersive 3D audio setups. A pair of tabletop tripods, developed in collaboration with König & Meyer, is available as an option for 124.99 euros.
The STUDIO 5X BT costs 50 euros more
On the standard STUDIO 5X, each monitor has a balanced XLR/6.3-mm combo input and an unbalanced RCA input. This allows signals to be routed directly from an audio interface, mixing console, or preamp to the left and right speakers.
The STUDIO 5X BT rounds out the system with a central Bluetooth receiver, a stereo RCA input, and an AUX input. A included 5-meter stereo link cable connects the two active speakers. Bluetooth 5.0 supports AAC for Apple devices and aptX HD for compatible playback devices. This allows you to quickly play back reference tracks, demos, or song ideas from your smartphone or laptop without changing the routing on the audio interface. Although aptX HD processes 24-bit signals, it still involves some loss of data and cannot be equated with an uncompressed studio connection.

Prices and Availability
The Teufel STUDIO 5X and STUDIO 5X BT have been available for order since September 29, 2026, in the Teufel online store and through Teufel stores. The tabletop stands are not included in the package. For shipping within Germany, the store currently lists a shipping cost of 14.99 euros; the estimated shipping time for both models is six to seven weeks.
From a technical standpoint, this debut is certainly ambitious: A true active 3-way system with coaxial drivers, separate amplification for all ways, DSP room correction, and mounting options for immersive setups is by no means common at this price point for a pair. Whether the Teufel actually sounds as neutral and uncolored as a professional monitoring system requires remains to be seen in testing.
