With the LinkBuds Clip, Sony is expanding its portfolio of true-wireless headphones with a new open-ear model. The clip-on headphones rely on a consistently open wearing concept that combines music enjoyment and awareness of the surroundings. Sony speaks of an “always-on listening experience” that is equally suitable for everyday life, work, family and on the go.

The open design ensures that users can perceive their surroundings at all times without having to remove the headphones. This helps with traffic, for example, and is useful for understanding announcements or conversations. At the same time, the sound should remain full and balanced, as you would expect from Sony.

Open clip design for all-day comfort

The LinkBuds Clip rely on a C-shaped clip design that does not penetrate the ear canal. This means that there is no pressure in the ear, which increases wearing comfort, especially during prolonged use. Improved air circulation and the low weight also contribute to the fact that the headphones are barely noticeable even after many hours.

Sony supplies removable fit cushions that allow adaptation to different ear shapes. The fit can be individually fine-tuned by making small changes to the position of the band. The design is therefore aimed at the widest possible range of users – from everyday office life to sport.

The compact charging case protects the headphones on the go, and colored case covers are optionally available for individualization.

Three listening modes for different situations

The LinkBuds Clip have three switchable listening modes that are activated by tapping the headphones:

  • Standard mode: Balanced sound with clear voices and high detail resolution for music, videos and podcasts.
  • Voice Boost Mode: Specifically amplifies voices to make content easier to understand even in loud environments such as train stations or streets.
  • Sound Leakage Reduction: Reduces sound radiation to the outside and is particularly suitable for quiet environments in which others should not be disturbed.

This allows the open headphones to be flexibly adapted to different everyday situations.

Typical Sony sound despite open design

Despite the open concept, Sony promises high sound quality. The LinkBuds Clip benefit from the manufacturer’s many years of audio expertise and from sound tuning derived from the 1000X flagship series. The result should be a natural, spatial sound that is convincing even without shielding from the ear.

The features include DSEE upscaling for compressed music, 360 Reality Audio for personalized, immersive playback and a 10-band equalizer that can be adjusted in the Sony | Sound Connect App. With “Find Your Own Equalizer”, it is particularly easy to determine your preferred sound character.

Clear conversations thanks to AI and bone conduction

For phone calls, meetings and voice recordings, the LinkBuds Clip rely on a combination of bone conduction sensor and AI-supported voice signal processing. The voice is recorded directly via vibrations, while an intelligent noise reduction system analyzes and reduces ambient noise. This should ensure that conversations remain clear and natural even in loud environments.

Battery life, protection and smart functions

The LinkBuds Clip achieve a total battery life of up to 37 hours including the charging case. A quick charge function provides energy for around one hour of playback after just three minutes of charging time. Thanks to IPX4 certification, the headphones are protected against sweat and rain.

Other convenient functions include multipoint connectivity, tap control, quick access and a scene-based listening experience that automatically adapts to the environment and activity.

Sustainability, price and availability

Sony completely dispenses with plastic in the packaging of the LinkBuds Clip. Around 20 percent of the plastics used in the product itself consist of recycled material.

The Sony LinkBuds Clip will be available from January 2026 in the colors Greige, Black, Lavender and Green.
The recommended retail price is 199.99 euros.
