Rotel is best known for its amplifiers, CD players, and streaming components. With the Amora 5, the long-established Japanese manufacturer is returning to the passive speaker market after many years. The compact two-way speaker is scheduled to be released in October 2026 at a price of 999 euros per pair.

Hardly any other brand is as naturally associated with hi-fi electronics as Rotel. Speakers, on the other hand, had long since ceased to play a role in the product lineup. That’s all changing now with the Amora 5. This passive compact speaker completes the signal chain from the source through the amplifier to the speaker cabinet.

Rotel’s goal is to offer complete, fully integrated hi-fi systems from a single source in the future. However, the Amora 5 is not intended exclusively as a companion for the company’s own electronics. Its balanced tuning and largely unobtrusive technical specifications are designed to make it easy to pair with amplifiers from other manufacturers.

Rotel Amora 5 with silk dome

The Amora 5 is a two-way bass-reflex speaker. For the high-frequency range, Rotel uses a 25-millimeter silk dome tweeter. A 165-millimeter mid-bass driver with a woven-fiber cone handles the midrange and bass frequencies. The crossover separates the two drivers at 2.5 kilohertz.

Rotel specifies the total frequency response as 48 hertz to 28 kilohertz. The sensitivity is 87 decibels, measured at 2.83 volts at a distance of one meter. With a nominal impedance of 8 ohms, the manufacturer recommends amplifiers with an output power between 30 and 120 watts.

The rear bass reflex port enhances low-frequency reproduction. Therefore, it is recommended to place the speaker a short distance from the wall to avoid excessive bass boost.

Resonance-optimized MDF enclosure

The resonance-optimized enclosure is made of medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and is designed to provide the drivers with the most stable operating surface possible. The fabric covers, which are held in place magnetically, can be removed without any visible mounting points.

Gold-plated screw terminals allow for both traditional single-wiring and bi-wiring with separate cable paths for high and low frequencies. Rotel offers the Amora 5 in the matte finishes Matte Black and Matte White.

Measuring 35 centimeters high, 19 centimeters wide, and 30 centimeters deep, it’s relatively large for a compact speaker. Each speaker weighs 7.7 kilograms.

“With the Amora 5, we’re extending the Rotel experience all the way to the final stage of the signal chain,” explains Peter Kao, Managing Director of Rotel and a representative of the third generation of the founding family. The company’s goal is to offer its customers and specialty retail partners a more comprehensive system solution.

Price and Availability of the Rotel Amora 5

The Rotel Amora 5 is expected to be available at authorized retailers starting in October 2026. The suggested retail price is 999 euros per pair. For more information: www.rotel.com
