Gaming with a meow effect: Razer’s new Kraken Kitty V3

What's new pussycat?

Razer has added two new models to its headset range – and is staying true to tradition: cat ears on the head. The Kraken Kitty V3 Pro and the more affordable Kraken Kitty V3 X aim to appeal to gamers and streamers not only with their surround sound, but above all with their eye-catching design. So if you’ve always wondered how you can appear as a walking anime character during your next multiplayer session: Voilà.

Light organ on the head

The Kraken Kitty V3 Pro incorporates technology found in many gaming headsets: 40 mm drivers, surround sound, a retractable microphone and wireless connection via Razer’s HyperSpeed Wireless or Bluetooth. The “Kitty” design is particularly new. According to the manufacturer, the illuminated ears even react dynamically to games or streams – with 16.8 million colors. That sounds like a disco on your head, but the question remains: does the colorful spectacle distract the other players more or the wearers themselves?

Streaming gadget or serious headset?

Razer emphasizes the “iconic role” of the Kitty headsets in the creator scene. In fact, the glowing cat ears have long been more cosplay than sober peripherals – influencers like Yoo “Jinnytty” Yoon-jin have made them a trademark. In terms of sound, Razer promises “clearly defined highs, smooth mids and deep bass” – a phrase that can be found in every marketing brochure. Independent tests will have to show how much hi-fi is really behind the cat ears.

Lighter, cheaper, less ear spectacle

In addition to the Pro model for around 200 euros, the Kraken Kitty V3 X is also available for just under 70 euros. It also has drivers and surround sound, but no wireless freedom and slightly fewer lighting effects. At just 270 grams, the X is significantly lighter and uses a classic jack connection – practical for anyone who also plays on a console or cell phone.

With the Kraken Kitty V3, Razer delivers a headset that is more than just an audio accessory – it is a statement, a costume and a conversation starter all in one. Whether you really look “pro” with cat ears on your head or more like a walking mascot is in the eye of the beholder. But if you fancy an eye-catching design and are prepared to accept the price tag of 199.99 euros (Pro) or 69.99 euros (X), you’ll get at least one thing: attention in the voice chat.
