The cassette has been making a surprising comeback for years. Now, We Are Rewind, in collaboration with Pink Floyd, is releasing anexclusive special edition of its WE-001 retro cassette player. The package includes not only a specially designed player featuring the legendary design of *The Dark Side of the Moon*, but also an exclusive first-press cassette edition of the 50th Anniversary Remaster of the cult album.
A classic with a new look
Visually, the special edition is inspired by the iconic prism cover of *The Dark Side of the Moon*. The cassette player features the famous rainbow motif on the front and comes with an exclusive cassette of the album and a collector’s box. According to We Are Rewind, this is the only cassette version of the 50th Anniversary Remaster.
Retro look, modern technology
Technically, the Pink Floyd Edition is based on the well-known WE-001. The aluminum casing, metal buttons, and a headphone amplifier developed specifically for cassette playback are designed to combine the classic Walkman concept with modern technology.
Features include, among other things:
- Bluetooth 5.1 for wireless headphones, speakers, and soundbars
- Rechargeable battery with up to twelve hours of runtime
- 3.5-mm headphone jack
- Line-in recording feature for creating your own mixtapes
- Optimized frequency response from 30 Hz to 14.5 kHz (±3 dB)

Nick Mason raves about the cassette
Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason fondly recalls the medium:
“I still have a great fondness for the cassette. It was a real breakthrough—not only with the Sony Walkman, but also with high-quality recorders.”
He still has his Nakamichi cassette deck sitting on the shelf, and he’s already looking forward to playing the new *The Dark Side of the Moon* tape on it.
During a previous visit, Nick Mason told me with a wink that he ultimately owed it to the best-selling album *The Dark Side of the Moon* for providing him with the financial means to pursue his passion for historic race cars. You can read the article about his extraordinary car collection here.

The cassette comeback continues
We Are Rewind reports that sales figures continue to rise. In the U . S., sales of new music cassettes increased by 17.5 percent year-over-year, and in the United Kingdom, they rose by as much as 53 percent following ten years of continuous growth. The company sees this as evidence of an ongoing renaissance in physical music formats.
