With its new Wireless Speaker, Loxone is expanding its audio portfolio to include a Wi-Fi speaker designed to integrate seamlessly into existing smart-home installations. What makes it special is that the speaker requires neither speaker wiring nor an audio server, making it particularly well-suited for retrofit projects in existing buildings.
Wireless Multi-Room Audio
The wireless speaker connects to the Loxone system via Wi-Fi and can be used there as a standalone audio zone or in conjunction with existing speakers. According to the manufacturer, the solution is compatible with all Loxone Miniservers, including older installations. Setup is done via the Loxone app.
In a smart home, the speaker does more than just play music. It can also be used for doorbells, alarms, announcements, and automated scenes. Additionally, audio can be linked to presence detection as desired, so that music, for example, starts automatically when someone enters a room.
Bluetooth Even Without a Smart Home
Even if you don’t have a Loxone system, you can still use the speaker. In this case, it functions as a standard Bluetooth speaker and receives music directly from a smartphone or tablet. Once a Miniserver is added later, the speaker will be fully integrated into the multiroom and automation system.
2-way system with aluminum housing
Technically, Loxone uses an active 2-way speaker with a built-in Class D amplifier. The power amplifier delivers 35 watts of rated power and 70 watts of peak power. A 12.5-cm woofer and a 2.5-cm tweeter are used to cover the frequency range from 50 to 20,000 hertz. The maximum sound pressure level is specified as 98 dB.
The case is made of anodized aluminum and measures 35 centimeters wide and weighs 2.48 kilograms. It supports Wi-Fi on the 2.4- and 5-GHz bands, and Bluetooth 4.2 is also available.
Price and availability
The Loxone Wireless Speaker is now available for 377 euros. With this product, the Austrian smart-home company is positioning itself well above traditional Bluetooth speakers and is primarily targeting users who view audio as an integral part of a comprehensive building automation system.
